The Word. | The Work. | The Way Forward.
A free, 23-week Bible study through the Gospel of John — for anyone who is serious about knowing who Jesus is. Cohort One begins September 14, 2026.
September 14, 2026
Enrollment closes August 31, 2026
John does not ease you in. He opens with a declaration that reshapes the cosmos: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." From that first verse to the last — the breakfast fire on the beach, the risen Jesus asking Peter "Do you love me?" — the entire Gospel is organized around one question. Over 23 weeks, you will not just read the answer. You will earn it.
John structures his Gospel around seven miracles — each one escalating in power and consequence. Water turned to wine. A royal official's son healed across a distance. Thirty-eight years of paralysis reversed. Five thousand fed from five loaves. Jesus walking on water. A man born blind given sight. And the seventh: a man four days dead walking out of a sealed tomb. You will study all seven and understand what each one is pointing to.
Seven times in John's Gospel, Jesus uses the divine name of God — ego eimi, I AM — to describe who He is. I am the bread of life. The light of the world. The gate. The good shepherd. The resurrection and the life. The way, the truth, and the life. The true vine. Each declaration is a claim. Each one demands a response.
Nicodemus, who came at night. The Samaritan woman at the well. The man at the pool of Bethesda. Mary and Martha. Lazarus. Thomas. Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb. John's Gospel is full of people who met Jesus at their most ordinary, most broken, most confused — and left different. Their stories will become your entry points.
Five chapters. One night. The Last Supper, the foot washing, the new commandment, the promise of the Spirit, the vine and the branches, and a prayer so intimate and so sweeping that it covers every person who will ever believe. John 13–17 is the most concentrated theology in the Gospel — and the most personal.
The arrest. The trial. Peter's denial — three times by a fire, and three times restored by a fire. Pilate's question: What is truth? The cross. The empty tomb. Mary in the garden. Thomas and the wounds. The breakfast on the shore. The Gospel ends not with a doctrine but with a question: Do you love me? Followed by a command: Follow me.
Each week has one memory verse selected from the passage. By the time you complete Cohort One, you will have memorized 23 verses from the Gospel of John — including John 1:14, 3:16, 6:35, 8:12, 8:32, 10:10, 11:25–26, and 14:6. These verses will stay with you long after the semester ends.

The Prologue. Before the first miracle, before the first sermon, John tells you who Jesus is. In the beginning was the Word.
The Baptist's testimony. The first disciples called. "Come and see" — the first invitation of the Gospel.
Water to wine. The first sign. Jesus cleanses the Temple. "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it in three days."
Nicodemus comes at night. "You must be born again." The most quoted verse in the Gospel — studied in its full context.
The woman at the well. Five husbands. "The water I give will become a spring welling up to eternal life." The first Gentile mission.
The Samaritan harvest. The royal official's son healed across a distance. Thirty-eight years at the pool of Bethesda — "Do you want to get well?"
The Father and Son relationship. The five witnesses to Jesus' identity. "Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life."
The feeding of five thousand. Walking on water. "I am the bread of life — the first I AM declaration of the Gospel."
The crowd thins. "This is a hard teaching — who can accept it?" Peter's confession: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
The Feast of Tabernacles. Division in the crowd. "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink." The Spirit promised.
The woman caught in adultery. "I am the light of the world." The testimony of the Father and Son. Neither do I condemn you.
"The truth will set you free." The man born blind sees — the Pharisees go blind. Before Abraham was, I AM. They pick up stones.
I am the gate. I am the good shepherd. He calls them by name. "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." I and the Father are one.
Lazarus is dead. Four days. Jesus wept. "I am the resurrection and the life." Lazarus, come out. The seventh sign sets the cross in motion.
Mary anoints Jesus. The triumphal entry. Greeks seek Jesus. "Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed."
The Last Supper. Jesus washes feet. "A new command I give you: love one another." Judas goes out. The night is dark.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled." I am the way, the truth, and the life. The promise of the Spirit. "I will not leave you as orphans."
Remain in me. Every branch that bears fruit He prunes. "Apart from me you can do nothing." The world will hate you — but abide.
The Spirit of truth will guide you. Grief to joy. "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
Jesus prays for Himself, His disciples, and every person who will ever believe. "That they may be one, Father, as we are one." He prays for you.
Gethsemane. The arrest. Peter's denial — three times. Pilate: "What is truth?" The crowd chooses Barabbas. He is handed over.
The cross. Mary at the foot of it. "It is finished." The spear. The burial. A stone rolls in front of a tomb. Everything is quiet.
The empty tomb. Mary in the garden. Thomas and the wounds. The breakfast fire on the shore. Three times: "Do you love me?" Three times: "Follow me."
